A single immediate postoperative instillation of chemotherapy decreases the risk of recurrence in patients with stage Ta T1 bladder cancer: a meta-analysis of published results of randomized clinical trials

Phase meta-analysisN = 1,476

Population
Patients with stage Ta T1 bladder cancer, single and multiple tumours, in 7 randomised trials.
Design
Meta-analysis of published randomised trials comparing transurethral resection alone with resection plus one immediate instillation of chemotherapy (epirubicin, mitomycin C, thiotepa or pirarubicin): 7 trials, recurrence information on 1476 patients.
Arms
  • Resection plus one immediate instillation (experimental): Transurethral resection plus one immediate postoperative instillation of chemotherapy
  • Resection alone (control): Transurethral resection alone
