Prognostic factors and long-term results after thymoma resection: a series of 307 patients
Phase observationalN = 307
- Population
- 307 patients operated for thymoma; 196 had myasthenia gravis
- Design
- Case series of 307 patients who underwent an operation for thymoma (196 with myasthenia gravis), analysed for the prognostic value of Masaoka clinical stage, completeness of resection, histologic classification (Verley-Hollmann), history of myasthenia gravis and postoperative radiotherapy. Stages: I 135, II 70, III 83, IV 19. Resection: complete 260, incomplete 30, biopsy 17. Radiotherapy was given mainly for invasive or metastatic thymoma. Mean follow-up 8 years; eight patients were lost to follow-up. Univariate and multivariate analyses. The abstract does not state whether the series was retrospective or from one centre (first author's affiliation: Marie Lannelongue Hospital, Le Plessis-Robinson, France).
- Arms
- All patients operated for thymoma (experimental, n = 307): Surgery (complete, incomplete or biopsy only); postoperative radiotherapy mainly in invasive or metastatic thymoma
