IESS-II

Multimodal therapy for the management of nonpelvic, localized Ewing's sarcoma of bone: intergroup study IESS-II

N = 214

Population
Eligible patients with previously untreated, localized Ewing's sarcoma of bone (nonpelvic per the title); 214 randomised
Design
Randomised comparison of the same four drugs (doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, vincristine, dactinomycin) given by a high-dose intermittent or a moderate-dose continuous method, with local radiotherapy as in IESS-I and surgical resection encouraged but not mandatory. 214 eligible patients; median follow-up 5.6 years.
Arms
  • Moderate-dose continuous schedule (treatment 2) (control): Doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, vincristine and dactinomycin by a moderate-dose continuous method, similar to the four-drug arm of IESS-I
  • High-dose intermittent schedule (treatment 1) (experimental): Doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, vincristine and dactinomycin by a high-dose intermittent method
