Bone marrow transplantation for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (HLA-identical sibling donors, patients treated February 1981 to December 1984)

Phase observationalN = 70

Population
People with CML: 52 in chronic phase and 18 with more advanced disease at transplantation.
Design
Treatment series with no comparison group (the abstract does not say whether it was single- or multi-centre): high-dose chemoradiotherapy then allogeneic marrow from HLA-identical siblings; spleen radiotherapy for the 40 patients without prior splenectomy; cyclosporine alone or with T-cell-depleted donor marrow to prevent graft-versus-host disease.
Arms
  • Allogeneic marrow transplant (experimental, n = 70): High-dose chemoradiotherapy followed by marrow from an HLA-identical sibling donor
People
Goldman JM, senior author Hows J
