Cardiovascular disease mortality after chemotherapy or surgery for testicular nonseminoma: a population-based study

Needs review

Phase observationalN = 15,006

Population
Men with testicular nonseminoma in SEER, 1980 to 2010, treated initially with chemotherapy (6,909; 60,065 person-years) or surgery without radiotherapy (8,097; 81,227 person-years)
Design
Population-based SEER analysis (1980 to 2010) of men with testicular nonseminoma who initially received chemotherapy or surgery without radiotherapy. Standardised mortality ratios and absolute excess risks per 10,000 person-years were calculated against general-population rates; multivariable modelling assessed age, treatment and extent of disease.
Arms
  • Surgery without radiotherapy (control, n = 8,097): Initial surgery, no radiotherapy
  • Chemotherapy (experimental, n = 6,909): Initial chemotherapy, no radiotherapy
