Combination chemotherapy of Hodgkin's disease with adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastine, and imidazole carboxamide versus MOPP
N = 60
- Population
- Advanced Hodgkin's disease (stages IIIB-IIIS and IV); no patient previously treated with chemotherapy; 20% had relapsed after primary radiotherapy.
- Design
- Preliminary report of a controlled study randomising patients with advanced Hodgkin's disease to MOPP or a new four-drug combination, ABVD (six cycles). Crossover to the other regimen was carried out for progressive disease or relapse after initial remission. Of 60 patients entered, 45 were evaluable for analysis of remission induction.
- Arms
- MOPP (control, n = 25): MOPP (mechlorethamine, vincristine, procarbazine, prednisone)
- ABVD (experimental, n = 20): Six cycles of ABVD (adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastine, imidazole carboxamide)
- People
- Bonadonna G
Δ CR rate−1 points

|---|---|---|---|---|
| CR ratePatients evaluable for remission induction (45 of 60 entered) | interimBonadonna 1975 | 75% | 76% | Preliminary report; the abstract gives no p-value or confidence interval. The authors state there was no difference between the regimens by stage, histologic type or prior irradiation. Complete remission was also defined through rebiopsy of known organ involvement whenever possible. Arm sizes are the evaluable patients (MOPP 25, ABVD 20). |
