1911-1993 · Radiotherapist; author of the 1950 Toronto study of survival in Hodgkin disease

Vera Peters

Ontario Radiotherapy Institute, Toronto General Hospital; Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto

Mildred Vera Peters, always known as Vera, graduated in medicine from the University of Toronto in 1934 and joined Gordon Richards at the Toronto radiotherapy institute in 1935. According to Cowan's 2008 account, which draws on a 1979 oral-history interview for this episode, Richards asked her in 1947 to review the institute's Hodgkin experience; she grouped patients by extent of disease and published the results in 1950. The department later moved to Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto (1958).
