Japanese drug-discovery scientist credited with tegafur-uracil (UFT) and developing other fluoropyrimidine drugs
Setsuro Fujii
A 2023 review says he developed nine drugs, four of them anticancer drugs: tegafur (FT), UFT, S-1 and trifluridine-tipiracil. A 2009 review says Fujii and colleagues invented UFT by combining uracil with tegafur, and that Kimura, Fujii and Taguchi proposed giving tegafur orally.
