First author of the 1957 Nature paper on fluorinated pyrimidines as tumour-inhibitory compounds
Charles Heidelberger
A 2009 meeting report describes him as the former president of the American Association for Cancer Research and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, and says a 2007 symposium honoured the 50th anniversary of his patent for 5-fluorouracil. He is first author of the 1957 Nature paper on fluorinated pyrimidines and last author of the 1958 Cancer Research paper on clinical studies with 5-fluorouracil.
