born 1942 · Researcher credited with the hypothesis that cells with low asparagine synthetase are killed by asparaginase

Bertha K. Madras

A 2014 history describes her, as a young postdoctoral student, hypothesising that cells with low asparagine synthetase die after asparaginase treatment and developing an assay for the enzyme. It reports that cells with normal levels were protected and cells with low levels were killed, and gives her birth year as 1942.
